Our Visit to Colmar

Colmar is an affluent city of about 70,000.	It's sister city in the USA is Princeton NJ
During its history Colmar, founded in the 9th Century, has passed through the ownership of the Holy Roman Empire in 1226, Sweden in 1632, France in 1679, Germany in 1871, back to France in 1918, then back to Germany in 1940 and finally back to France in 1945.	The architecture of the city varies from Germanic type stone building with incredible design, to beautifully timbered houses and buildings.
Colmar abounds with interesting signs telling what the store offers.	Who can guess what this store offers?
Colmar is located on the Lauch River	The River Lauch branches out with canals as it passes through Colmar. This gives the city the name of "little Venice" (La Petite Venise)
Small motorized gondola like boats take visitors for a ride.	You will have some time for very good shopping in Colmar, the capital of the Alsatian Wine Region..

One of three replicas of the original Statues of Liberty is found in Colmar, the city in which the designer of the statue, Federic Bartholdi, was born. This replica is 38 feet high.

The original Statue, 151 feet high, was presented to the United States of America as a symbol of the friendship, and peace between the USA and France.

Notice how the house gets larger as it rises from the street. This is because the property taxes were levied based on the square footage on the ground. Most are larger by 2-3 feet all around on the second floor and another foot or two on the third floor.
